Letter from the Editor The Romanian Journal
of Legal Medicine, the official publication of the Romanian
Legal Medicine Society, is trying to restore a long standing tradition
which had started in 1884 with Professor Alexandru Sutzu (1834-1919) and
his ephemeral "Journal of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine". In
1936, Professor Nicolae Minovici (1868-1941) founded the Legal Medicine
Association, the first of its kind in Romania, and published the
"Journal of Legal Medicine". There's both a challenge and a burden in dealing with such a legacy. Since its re-launch in 1993, the Romanian Journal of Legal Medicine has been the chronicler of the Romanian legal medicine and a forum for the East European forensic scientists and not only. The journal has managed to publish original contributions by forensic experts from all over Europe, USA and Japan. We feel strongly that we could play an important editorial role, but we also understand that we cannot simply resurrect the editorial role of our past publications. The world of forensic science and technology is a different place today. Therefore we need to keep up with the latest in forensic medicine, including the publication of the original investigations, observations, scholarly inquiries and reviews in the various branches of the forensic sciences. These include forensic pathology, clinical forensic medicine, medical malpractice, traffic medicine, alcohology, biochemistry, thanatochemistry, clinical and forensic toxicology, forensic genetics and paternity, forensic psychiatry, forensic odontology, law and ethics. These are some of the reasons why we're restyling the journal. And this is why we need your support and advice in enhancing the quality of publications on forensic medicine. We hope that you'll notice our new thrust on our Web site - www.rjlm.ro - and in the new print edition of the Romanian Journal of Legal Medicine. At the same time, we need your input. I'd like to know what you expect from the Romanian Journal of Legal Medicine in this era of new challenges and opportunities. We look forward to receiving a positive feedback from you!
