The drug-addict: patient or prisoner?

Abstract: The drug-addict: patient or prisoner? Nowadays, drug addiction is a phenomenon that has continually rising incidence, along with an increased number of deaths related to the use and serious medical repercussions. In such a context, what possible solutions have to be considered, in order to attempt to control this phenomenon? Could coerced treatment be the answer? The article discusses several aspects of the legislation on drug use and traffic in Romania, aspects that rise important controversies. It also presents a study based on questionnaires on addicts and on members of the personnel involved in addiction treatment, reflecting their opinion related to treatment imposed by law on addicts, making a comparative analysis between the two groups.
